BIOGRAPHY
Tom Kingston is a versatile and dynamic composer and producer, simultaneously lauded for his commercial releases as one half of duo Solomon Grey, as well as for his composition for television and film - now his primary focus since the band’s hiatus in 2021. Combining his classical and jazz training with a wealth of experience in contemporary music production, Tom is equally at home working with leading orchestras, classical ensembles and musicians as he is harnessing electronic, experimental and produced sounds in the studio - often combining elements from both worlds to powerful effect.
Tom builds on a lifelong passion for making music, bringing an irrepressible enthusiasm and love of his craft to every project. Reflecting on his experience as a screen composer, he says:
“Making music has been my passion since childhood - one that I have been lucky enough to pursue professionally, as an artist, producer and composer. But it is in writing for picture over the last more than ten years that I have really been able to bring my wide and varied range of musical skills and experience to bear. I work very instinctively with the stories I am entrusted to help tell, and I relish the creative process which unfolds in exploring, developing and refining the musical identity each project needs and deserves.”
Tom has just finished scoring UK feature The Incomer, starring Domhnall Gleeson, Gail Rankin and John Hannah, which will receive its world premiere at the Sundance film festival in January 2026. Set on a remote Scottish island, director Louis Paxton’s debut is funny, heartwarming and beautifully odd in equal measure, and Tom’s compelling and characterful music is intimately woven into the fabric of the film. With an approach which is modern and experimental - and yet astutely sensitive to the quirky yet poignant story and its setting - Tom melds traditional folk influences, tape loops, off-kilter rhythms and classic strings, to create a truly unique and contemporary score.
Prior to pivoting back to film in 2025, Tom contributed additional compositions to one of Netflix’s recent hit TV shows, Apple Cider Vinegar. This came on the back of scoring five-part Showtime/Paramount+ docu-series The World According To Football, executive produced and narrated by Trevor Noah, with Tom’s hybrid electronic/orchestral OST released on prestigious US soundtrack label Lakeshore Records in 2024. Previous feature film work includes US indie movie Mabel, directed by Nicholas Ma, son of acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo, whose story of a nature-obsessed tweenager whose best friend is a potted plant is beautifully accompanied by Tom’s poised chamber score, performed by the acclaimed London Contemporary Orchestra.
Tom also continues to find success in synch, his works chosen to accompany a huge range of trailers, adverts and notable moments in TV and film worldwide. His compositions have featured in shows from Oprah Winfrey’s iconic interview with Meghan and Harry, to the official trailer for Starz TV series Blindspotting, whilst Solomon Grey productions have been heard on trailers for Netflix’s The Dig, HBO’s The Time Travellers’ Wife and Palme d’Or winner Dheepan, high-profile promos for Playstation VR and Vue Cinemas, as well as memorable scenes in TNT’s Animal Kingdom, Starz’ Power, ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder, Sky’s Long Way Up and many more
Tom’s music is memorable, visceral and original - and always elegantly captures and enhances the essence of the story or subject on the screen, large or small. His range and talent as a composer and producer is unquestionably an asset to any project, as is the value he brings as part of a wider creative team.
